Participants will gain a strong foundation of knowledge to begin utilizing play therapy as a part of their overall treatment with children ages 3+. This will be built via learning about the history of play therapy as an evidence-based treatment for children, discovering various assessment and treatment planning skills incorporating play therapy, identifying materials useful in a play therapy setting, and experiencing live demonstrations and interactive participation employing play therapy interventions.
Learning Objectives:
1. Define child centered play therapy in mental health treatment.
2. Outline the history of play therapy and child-centered play therapy theoretical framework.
3. Ascertain knowledge of play-based assessment tools and the incorporation of play therapy in overall treatment planning.
4. Discover recommended materials to obtain to create an effective therapeutic play space.
5. Demonstrate and practice child-centered play therapy interventions and directive play interventions
Sarah Moore, LPC
Sarah Moore, LPC is a Certified TraumaPlay therapist in private practice at Hope Enrichment Center in Southaven, MS. She has been providing consultation to child therapists since 2018.
She specializes in the treatment of PTSD, anxiety and depression in children ages 3-10 years old. Sarah has provided mental health therapy since 2014 and previously led mental health providers at Healing Hearts Child Advocacy Center in providing therapy to children who have experienced abuse and neglect.
Follow-up Group & Individual Consultations
Sarah Moore, LPC also offers follow-up consultations to her Introduction to Play Therapy in Treatment course. All consultations will be held via Google Meet, with session invite links being sent out after registration.
