Topic: The Neurobiology and Treatment of Addiction & Trauma

Objectives: -Define addiction according to the DSM V TR and addiction professionals.
-Determine the neurobiological impact of both addiction and trauma.
-Discuss the prevalence of co-occurring disorders in treatment.
-Identify and utilize assessment tools helpful for screening for addiction and trauma.
-Learn evidence-based therapies helpful in treating co-occurring disorders.

Carrie Ann Carr, MA, LCPC, LPC-S, LPC-MSHP

Carrie is a licensed clinical professional counselor and supervisor in Illinois, Mississippi, and Tennessee, with over 30 years of experience in guiding individuals, teams, and communities toward impactful change.
As the founder and CEO of the Hope Enrichment Center, PC, with six locations across three states, Carrie has built a space where healing and growth thrive. Her work extends far beyond the therapy room – through dynamic speaking engagements, nationwide trainings, and mentorship, Carrie enjoys equipping mental health professionals and leaders with the skills to overcome trauma, addiction, and adversity.

An expert in EMDR therapy, mindfulness, ego state therapy, addiction, and trauma treatment, Carrie has presented at conferences and professional development events across the country. Carrie also develops essential resources for professionals who work with first responders, trauma, and healthcare leadership.

Carrie’s leadership in the field includes serving on the board of directors for the EMDR International Association (2012-2016) and currently serving on the Tennessee First Responder Foundation as secretary. Through every role, Carrie remains deeply committed to strengthening the mental health profession and ensuring that those who serve others are supported and nurtured.
