How do I choose the best therapist for myself?
Choosing the right therapist is an important step, and it’s okay to take your time finding someone who feels like a good fit. Here are a few helpful things to consider:
Start with your needs and goals.
Think about what you’d like help with—such as anxiety, trauma, relationships, or life transitions—and look for a therapist who has experience in those areas. Some therapists also specialize in certain age groups or approaches, which can make a difference.
Consider their approach and style.
Therapists use different methods (such as CBT, EMDR, or mindfulness-based approaches). You don’t need to know all the details, but it helps to choose someone whose style feels supportive, collaborative, and aligned with what you’re looking for.
Pay attention to how you feel with them.
A strong therapeutic relationship matters. After the first few sessions, ask yourself: Do I feel heard, respected, and safe? Do I feel comfortable being honest? These feelings are often more important than any specific technique.
Practical factors matter too.
Be sure your clinician is available to see you on the days/times that work best for you to ensure longevity in care. Be certain that the clinician can see you at the best location or determine telehealth options. Determine if cost services and/or insurance coverage are in alignment with your current financial situation. Choosing someone who fits your schedule and budget can help you stay consistent with therapy.
Remember, it’s okay to change.
If a therapist doesn’t feel like the right fit, that’s okay. Therapy works best when there’s trust and connection, and it’s perfectly acceptable to explore other options until you find the right match.
What if I don’t feel like my therapist is a good fit?
A good therapeutic relationship is important. If you feel your therapist isn’t the right match, we are happy to help you transition to another clinician within the practice.
How do I schedule my first appointment?
You can request an appointment by contacting our intake line at 1-833-717-3105 or completing the appointment request form on our website. Our team will contact you to gather information and schedule your first session.
What can I expect during my first session?
Your first session focuses on getting to know you—your concerns, goals, and what you hope to gain from therapy. Your therapist will explain the therapy process and answer any questions you have.
How long are sessions?
Most sessions are 50-55 minutes. Some services, such as assessments or group sessions, may vary in length.
How often will I attend therapy?
Frequency depends on your needs and goals. Many clients begin with weekly sessions and adjust over time.
Do you offer in-person and telehealth appointments?
We offer both in-person sessions at our various office locations and secure telehealth sessions for clients who prefer or require virtual care.
How does online therapy work?
Telehealth sessions are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. You will receive a link prior to your appointment.
Is telehealth confidential?
Telehealth sessions are private and follow the same confidentiality standards as in-person sessions.
What do I need for a telehealth session?
A stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a private space where you feel comfortable talking.
Do you accept insurance?
We accept many insurance plans with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO of Illinois, Mississippi and Tennessee, Cigna/Evernorth, UBH/Optum and Aetna. Coverage varies by provider and plan, so we recommend verifying benefits before your first appointment.
What if you don’t accept my insurance?
We offer self-pay options and can provide a receipt for out-of-network reimbursement if your insurance plan allows.
What are your self-pay rates?
Self-pay rates vary by service and provider. Please contact our office for current pricing.
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
We do not offer sliding scale rates for services.
When is payment due?
Payment is due at the time of service. This includes co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles, and any balance due on your account.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or missed appointments are subject to a fee.
What happens if I’m late?
If you arrive late, your session will still end at the scheduled time to respect other clients’ appointments. If you are more than fifteen (15) minutes late, you will be charged a late cancellation fee, and your appointment will be rescheduled.
