Ego State Therapy in the Treatment of Trauma (Zoom Only)

This program will outline the treatment of trauma, complex PTSD, and dissociation with ego state therapy.  Participants will discover methods to appropriately assess for complex PTSD and dissociation, the impact of trauma on various human systems, and underlying information processes that need therapeutic repair.  Clinicians will learn the essence of ego state therapy techniques and how to successfully employ them within a strategic treatment plan.   Practitioners will also be given several examples of how to enhance ego state therapy between sessions by being provided with impactful and practical homework assignments for clients.

EMDR Therapy in the Treatment of Addictions

This advanced training workshop showcases the healing that is possible when combining the frameworks of both Buddhist psychology and EMDR therapy to create a primary clinical practice rubric for those struggling from addiction and addictive behaviors.  Case studies and demonstration videos will be utilized to show how the MET(T)A Protocol – Mindfulness and EMDR Treatment Template for Agencies – can be utilized to create a trauma-focused environment to heal those within private practice and outpatient settings as well as residential treatment centers. Participants will be guided to understanding the importance of developing their own mindfulness practices within a MET(T)A Protocol trauma-focused paradigm, and the development and practice of personal mindfulness exercises will be encouraged. The workshop concludes with concrete examples of how treatment centers, outpatient clinics and private practices alike can utilize the scaffolding of the MET(T)A Protocol for assessment, treatment planning, and improved treatment outcomes.

EMDR Therapy with Children and Adolescents

Working with children & younger adolescents who have experienced early childhood trauma can be challenging. They don’t have explicit memory to share their experiences, but their brain and body have stored the memories in a dysfunctional neuro-network. Because this population uses play as their language, and toys as their words, use of EMDR must implement special strategies and techniques to assess and successfully treat them.

This program will provide a comprehensive approach for treating children and younger teens with EMDR. It focuses on each phase of EMDR and provides step by step assessment and treatment considerations for this population. The program is augmented by many case reviews, video clips, and discussion. There will be special protocols shared for specific behaviors frequently found in treating this population.

Utilization of EMDR therapy in the treatment of complex trauma and dissociative symptoms
    (Zoom Only)

The heart of EMDR involves the transmutation of these dysfunctionally stored experiences into an adaptive resolution that promotes psychological health. Guided by the Adaptive Information Processing Model (AIP), EMDR therapy is applicable to a wide degree of disorders, including complex trauma. Complex trauma, while rooted in memories of traumatizing events that are maladaptively stored, can be more comprehensively understood and phenomenologically elaborated by the framework of The Structural Dissociation of the Personality (TDSP).

According to TDSP trauma can cause the personality to split into parts: Part(s) that engage in everyday living (called the Apparently Normal Part) and parts which hold the maladaptively stored, “stuck in time” memories (called Emotional Part), each of them having its own first-personperspective and memory networks. Before processing traumatic memories with EMDR, people with more severe trauma may need appropriate stabilization to avoid stimulating other memories and emotional parts that are beyond the client’s window of tolerance. Consequently, phase-oriented treatment is important.  The three phases are a) Stabilization  b) Treatment of traumatic memories, and c) (re)Integration of the personality).

This workshop will integrate EMDR treatment within a Phase Oriented framework, (informed by TDSP) to enable the therapist to effectively treat clients with complex trauma. Teaching points will be illustrated by video tapes of sessions.
