Addiction Recovery

Addiction Recovery

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) working definition of recovery is “a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential.”
When folks with mental and/or substance use disorders (SUD) seek help, they are met with the knowledge and belief that anyone can recover and/or manage their conditions successfully. A person’s recovery is built on their strengths, talents, coping abilities, resources, and inherent values. It addresses the individuals overall physical, emotion, spiritual, and relational health and is supported by peers, friends, and family members.

The process of recovery is unique for each person and therefore, treatment needs to be tailored to each client. This may include mental health counseling, medication, spiritual growth, peer support, family support, improved physical health, and giving back to one’s community. Recovery is characterized by continual growth and maneuvering through setbacks

Recovery support services help people learn about and navigate systems of care available to them, remove barriers to recovery, stay engaged in the recovery process, and live fulfilling, purpose-filled lives! They may incorporate a full range of social, legal, and other services that assist in facilitating recovery, wellness, and linkage to supports that lead to improved quality of life.
